DUI Task Force in City of Milton

Currently the City of Milton is contemplating setting up a DUI Task Force. To the average person, this may seem like a good idea. But to a driver that has been stopped and charged with DUI, their view of a Task Force with a specific agenda is different.

The most basic question to ask is what is the need?  Have we seen a great increase in drunk driving accidents? How many lives were lost in the past year due to alcohol related accidents? Are they increasing over the prior year at a rate greater than the population growth rate?

In reality, most municipalities see traffic enforcement as a piggy bank. The person charged with a DUI has greater potential penalties even if the charges are reduced. The simple statement “follow the money” will show why the City of Milton is considering forming a DUI Task Force.

Even without a task force, there are City of Milton police officers, Georgia State Patrol, and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. Which means you may have found this post while doing a search for a Milton DUI Lawyer because you need help. Our firm, Mitnick and Associates, is trained to help defend those that have been charged with DUI/DWI (or even BUI) and will help protect you and your rights.

The most important issue in a DUI, DWI or BUI charge is you are not guilty in our eyes.  In the eyes of the law, you are only guilty once a court finds you guilty. The penalties for being found guilty are very substantial so you need to act quickly to hire an experienced DUI attorney.

If you were arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) or boating under the influence (BUI), the arresting officers will immediately confiscate your driver’s license and you will receive a DS-1205 form.  You will receive the form for refusing to comply with the breathalyzer test or for blowing over the legal limit.

This form serves as your temporary driving permit and as notification for a pending administrative license suspension (ALS) hearing.  The form has details about your arrest but, most importantly, it explains how to request a hearing so you can contest your AUTOMATIC driver’s license suspension.

You have ten (10) business days to request this hearing. If you don’t act within those ten days you will lose your ability to drive for 1 year.  Think about that. While you are thinking, do you want to “take your chances” or do you want an experienced Milton DUI lawyer on your side.

A conviction for driving under the influence can seriously impact your future. It can cost you a job, the ability to drive, higher costs for insurance and the actual fines from the case. In many cases, the driver is not really impaired but the arresting officer isn’t concerned with that detail. His job is to make the case and let the courts sort it out.

If the City of Milton does set up a DUI Task Force, there will be greater numbers of people charged with DUI and a greater need for an experienced DUI attorney like Dan Mitnick or the team at Mitnick and Associates to help keep good people’s lives from being destroyed.

If you haven’t faced an arrest for DUI, consider yourself fortunate. If you do, contact Mitnick and Associates to help you protect your livelihood. If the City of Milton does begin a DUI Task Force, make sure you have DUI Attorney Dan Mitnick’s phone number in your phone.  You may need it.
